Het lichaam van het nationale ballet

2013

Emio Greco | Pieter C Scholten

28 dancers of the Dutch National Ballet perform in the contemporary dance language of Greco and Scholten.

Het lichaam van het nationale ballet [The body of the national ballet] is a collaboration between Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten and the dancers of the Dutch National Ballet. The choreographers will be giving a new impulse to ballet with Het lichaam van het nationale ballet, central to which will be the relationship between the individual body and the 'body' of the group.

A revolutionary approach to the body – a combination of internal logic, intention and external form.

This performance is part of the series Le Corps du Ballet, the overall title of a series of activities initiated by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten that is aimed at renewing the ballet from within.

Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten have worked together since 1995 in their search for new dance forms. Their contemporary dance language is characterised by an emphasis on the internal logic of the body and the intention of the dancer. In the series Le Corps du Ballet they take up the challenge to apply their approach to the body to a totally different dance form. After several projects in this vein with foreign ballet companies such as Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Ballet National de Marseille, it seemed only logical to start up a collaboration from this perspective with the Dutch National Ballet, the biggest classical ballet company in the Netherlands and also based in Amsterdam.
