Neptune

2021

Lois Alexander uses water and its transformational qualities as points of departure to reflect on her position as a woman situated at intersecting margins. Water has three states: solid, liquid and gas, and it is always in transition. With Neptune Lois is investigating gaze and politics of view through a watery body. Surrounded by melting blocks of ice, the artist examines the structural issues that continue to affect women of color and rewrites the narrative from her own perspective. Through the intersection of dance, visual art and sound, Neptune creates a universe that triggers the imagination to form new modes of existence. Neptune is a collaboration between scenographer Nina Kay and composer Shannon Sea.
