Jan Martens
2013 - 2014
Jan Martens (°1984, Belgium) studied at the Fontys Dance Academy in Tilburg and graduated in 2006 from the Artesis Royal Conservatoire in Antwerp. He has worked as a performer with Koen De Preter, United-C, Mor Shani and Ann Van den Broek. Since 2010 he has been creating his own choreographic work, which has been performed with increasing regularity for national and international audiences over the years. Jan Martens' work is nourished by the conviction that every body can communicate, that every body has something to tell. Martens undresses existing movement idioms, puts them to his will, strips them to their essence. By means of simple, transparent structures he shows man in all his simplicity, stripped of adornment. From 2013 to 2014 Martens was artist in residence at ICK and created, among other things, The Dog Days are Over.
