Program ICK-Fest x Bellevue 2023

The second ICK-Fest at Theater Bellevue on March 28, 29 and 30 presents several generations of makers bundled in an exciting program. Both acclaimed choreographers Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten show new work and emerging choreographers Sedrig Verwoert and Robin Nimanong. The encounter is central: from technology to ritual, from spirituality and death to the strength and vulnerability of bodies. All senses are stimulated and new ways of living between man and man, man and technology, man and nature, and life and death are presented.

On March 28 and 30, Anybody out there? by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten plays in a double bill with THE RITUAL by Sedrig Verwoert. And on March 29 Robin Nimanong presents the premiere of his performance Cyborg DNA, a futuristic queer performance installation.

ANYBODY OUT THERE ?

Anybody Out There? - Emio Greco | Pieter C. Scholten

Two driven young dogs beat their way through the dark. Sledgehammer blows, strokes of darkness, strokes of light in which the dancers navigate. The search for the new seeing is a path toward the light, the attempt to come out of our hole. Space is created for intuition and wonder, for mystery and the incomprehensible. By touch, we move forward.

Anybody Out There? is the prelude to the dance opera WE, the EYES that will premiere June 24 at the Ravenna Festival (I). This production is part of the WE, Cycle in which ICK wants to offer perspectives for a society in crisis and claims change. ICK is convinced that we are going to experience profound changes in the time to come. But we are currently blind to its deeper dimension. That inhibits us. The WE projects give a stage to the journey we are undertaking together as humanity.

THE RITUAL

THE RITUAL - Sedrig Verwoert (premiere)

One ritual, two bodies. The transformation, step by step, into a new identity. How do you find space within yourself to change? And how do you embark on the quest to connect with the space around you, and to connect with each other? The body is central, in a moving transformation: together they form a new world.

THE RITUAL is Sedrig Verwoert's latest performance, in which Verwoert explores identity as something cultural, sexual and physical. Following the premiere of the audiovisual performance Within Without II, a collaboration with renowned lighting designer Nick Verstand, among others, Verwoert presents in THE RITUAL a further development of the choreographies from Within Without II. Get carried away by this exciting duet by Sedrig Verwoert with dancer Alanna Archibald.

CYborg DNA

Cyborg DNA - Robin Nimanong (premiere)

Cyborg DNA is a futuristic queer performance installation fusing digital art, synthesizer music and contemporary dance. A hypersensitive and hypnotic experience about the complex relationship between the body and technology. A search for a language and the struggle against the illusion that there is one social code that contains all meanings. From evolution to transhumanism, the performers recreate human dimensions, within an infinite sense of time.

Cyborg DNA is a collaboration between dance artist and creative producer Robin Nimanong with digital artist Luxnautilus. The performance is inspired by Donna Haraway's Cyborg Manifesto: about how language evolves with time and a future language that embraces the complexity of the body and technology. The performance installation was nominated for the DNA NEXT! Incentive Award 2022.

Bio
Robin Nimanong (he/she/they, 1995, NL/TH) creates performances at the intersection of dance, movement and media. Robin's performances are often made for and by the queer community, with themes of identity, self-care and activism, driven by his queer identity and Thai background. In 2017, Robin graduated from the Department of Modern Theater Dance in Amsterdam. After this, he danced with Batsheva, SHIFFT and Nicole Beutler, among others, and made his own performances and dance films, including Bodyscan 223 and Aphrodisiac II (winner of THE NEXT BEST FRINGE AWARD 2020). Robin is the winner of the Anne Faber Stipendium 2022.
