A macabre new age rave ritual inspired by Vaslav Nijinsky's mourning of human connection, obsession with God, and iconic piece The Rite of Spring. Минус spirals around questions of tradition and modernity, delirium and transcendence, spectacle and gathering, self and otherness while scavenging ways to soothe the mind through the body and its senses.

Paula Montecinos - (UN)BOUND

UNBOUND is a somatic/sonic fabulative practice and an invitation to mix and relocate time and space using body, words, sounds and voice. An oral performance poetry, that works as a concert or a journey, revolving around motifs of displacement, vital reconnection and life-sustaining musicality.

Featuring an embedded and intimate technology set-up, body, voice and electronics meet, crafting claims and refusals to the regulatory order of the senses.

This session will occur in two spaces simultaneously. In a live radio broadcasted and in a physical space, in De Vlugt.

Andreas Hannes

Andreas Hannes (Greece, 1987) is trained as a percussionist and choreographer and has a passion for film. After completing his studies in classical percussion at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, Greece, he moved to the Netherlands. As an independent filmmaker and artist, he co-founded Small House Productions, a platform for international and interdisciplinary projects (2011-2015). He was also active as a social worker. In 2018 Hannes graduated from the SNDO (School for New Dance Development) with the performance The City and won the Moving Forward trajectory 2018. This was followed by the performance Tremble (2019) as artist in residence at Dansmakers Amsterdam. He is a programmer and producer at Cinedans Festival in Amsterdam. In 2021, Andreas has created a choreography with and for the dancers of the ICK Company for the program Known & To Know, Reverberated Emissions, which has premiered during ICK Fest.

He summarises his artistic work under the notion of distance as relational, physical and metaphysical. He is fascinated by what is considered similar or different between bodies, traditions and disciplines, and works with the field of tension between them. In 2019 he received the Young Art Support Award Amsterdam. He also won the BNG Bank Dance Award 2020. In 2022, Andreas his work Warping Soul, with dancers from Conny Janssen Danst company, was chosen as one of the Aerowaves Top Twenty22.

Trevoga

Trevoga is a para-fictional choreographic duo with a fluid identity and a soft spot for dystopian imaginaries.

Growing up in the nebulous socio-political context of “re-construction”, between the violently enforced obedience ruled by the moral imperatives of their soviet past and the stupefying hedonism of the newborn capitalist dream, Trevoga develops a taste for the aesthetics of repression and seduction, along with playful distrust of well-established dichotomies. Their practice aims to disentangle their identities as strands of the various mythologies they inhabit, while they dig out the violence rooted in their symbolic landscapes. Their approach to the body is seen as a product of fiction rather than a matter of physics, an active process of narration subjugated to the impulses of its surroundings.

Trevoga stands for breaking from the rigid understanding of “self” as a preconceived state we are born into, and instead celebrates its constant oscillations. They unravel both the symptom and the etimology, the victim and the perpetrator, the puppet and the puppeteer. Imbued with the disaffection of the urban lifestyle, their aesthetic gnaws at the mental onslaught provoked by the modern pursuit of exclusivity, addiction to entertainment, hustler fanaticism, pharmaceutical joys and bureaucratic sorrows. Embracing both the cruelty from within and from without yet falling short of nihilistic apathy.

Trevoga means anxiety, as in rejecting escapist indulgence and endorsing the ubiquity of crisis. Spewing the bile of the impotence of our bodies, which are nothing more than tiny refractions in a net of oppressive semiotic mechanisms yet worshipping its will to imagine futures and utter itself anew through the cathartic power of dance, trusting that an impulse set free anywhere will reverberate everywhere.

Paula Montecinos

Paula Montecinos Oliva (Chile, 1980) is a performer, choreographer and sound artist working with sounding relationalities and mixed temporalities, as an attempt to reimagine a world outside linear colonial-modernity. Her research includes the experimentation with sonic technologies, written matter and somatic movement, creating hybrid formats of performances, concerts and installations.
