Programme 6 July in Space for Dance Art

Space for Dance Art, offers a varied dance programme on 6 July during Blauwe Zone Festival. Sensorium Toolkit Workshop for children aged 8 to 12, dance will be explored from the senses. Later in the day, there will be a dance presentation by New Adventures #1 2024 resident Constantin Trommlitz, followed by a a We Dance Together dance workshop led by contemporary dance artist Ummi Yanuba with her own found The Explore Practice (18+).

SENSORIUM TOOLKIT WORKSHOP

Learn to dance with your senses. Look, Listen, Feel and Smell with the Sensorium Toolkit and discover a new way of making movements. This workshop is for children aged 8 and up. Dance experience is not required. The toolkit is an instrument for dance teachers to stimulate pupils to dance and create movement through sensory experience. This physical box stimulates creativity and is full of tools to feel, hear, look and smell.
Cost: Own contribution, registration required.

A SENSORY TOOLBOX FOR DANCING

The toolkit is an instrument for dance teachers to stimulate pupils to dance and create movement through sensory experience. This physical box stimulates creativity and is full of tools to feel, hear, look and smell

The Sensorium Toolkit gives teachers guidance during lessons in which the connection between body and mind is paramount. Images, sounds, smells and textures form the starting point for physical discovery and for the natural process of concentration, information processing, creative association, imagination and ultimately layered movement.

The Sensorium Toolkit is inspired by the artistic vision of the professional choreography practice of Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. The toolkit gives you, as a teacher, material with which you encourage students to discover the creative possibilities of their bodies. The toolkit does not prescribe movements or choreographies. It was Greco's curiosity for the moving body that drove him into the studio himself in 1995. With the toolkit we evoke that same curiosity in both pupils and teachers.

A teacher who works with the toolkit is particularly eager to expand his/her own creative vision, to go off the beaten track of kinetic movement lessons and to embark on adventures in learning to discover the relationship between body and mind.

The toolkit is suitable for various teaching situations and is intended for lessons for pupils aged 10 years and older. As a teacher, you decide whether you use the toolkit in one lesson, in a series of lessons, or as a recurring part of your regular lessons. The toolkit combines the creative with the rational and thus offers a multifaceted view of what dance education is: learning about yourself, your own body and the relationship with your environment through creativity and discovery, analysis and processing.

About Silver Lining and Cronstantin Tommlitz

Constantin Trommlitz (1996, Frankfurt am Main) is a dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker based in Amsterdam. His background in movement is in Breaking, an art form he cites as the prime influence on his work. In his choreographic work, he enjoys merging highly acrobatic elements of Breaking with a contemporary approach to process and embody real emotions in himself and otherperformers. Currently, Constantin is investigating the expression of pain - how can one change the narrative of pain from a limitation to a motor for self-expression and virtuous movement? Constantin is a housemaker at the production house Korzo in The Hague, and will soon become an artist in resident at K3 in Hamburg. 

During the New Adventures residency in April 2024, Constantin aims to deepen into the expression of chronic pain through movement. He is interested in how addressing it openly in dialogue with a group of dancers can lead to a process of healing, and how our own sensations of pain can provide inspiration and urgency to be transformed into movement. At the same time, the residency allows Constantin to apply his own movement language deriving from Breaking to a group of dancers with different backgrounds, and to research how merging it with a contemporary influence can make space for emotions and stories.

About Ummi Yanuba and We Dance Together Workshop

We Dance Together 2024 #2 will be led by contemporary dance artist Ummi Yanuba with her own The Explore Practice.

The Explore Practice creates a safe space with in-depth movement to create new perspectives and connections inside and out. Together with Ummi you will explore new entrances into movement and connect to the space around and inside us in different ways.

About Ummi Yanuba:
Ummi has been dancing her whole life. When she was 16 she started dancing more intensively and in 2023 she gratuite from Expanded Contemporary Dance program at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK). She is no stranger at ICK Dans Amsterdam since she has been one of our interns (ICK Next - Junior company) in her past and was part of Funk the latest creation of Christian Guerematchi (an ICK Dans Amsterdam supported artist). Apart from dancing she does research around Embodied Wisdom and is in training to be come certified TRE (Tension and Trauma Releasing Excersies). With her knowledge of dance and her new found research she has created The Explore Practice. She always puts playfulness, joy, connection and curiosity first.
